PETALS FOR PARENTS ‘23

STIIIZY PROVIDES RELIEF AND SUPPORT TO MOTHERS ACROSS LOS ANGELES TO CELEBRATE MOTHER’S DAY

Every Mother’s Day we set out to continue this thoughtful initiative that brings joy and warmth to our elders at the Sakura Gardens, and this year marked the third consecutive occasion on which our STIIIZY Joint Efforts team united with the retirement community to bring smiles to the faces of elderly women.

Our “Petals for Parents” project sent our team of volunteers over to the Boyle Heights neighborhood to donate over 100 bouquets of flowers to the women living there, and the flowers were sourced from local street flower vendors in Los Angeles.

Local street vendors are a core part of LA’s culture and are synonymous with active sidewalks and it’s these daily interactions with those around us that make the city feel alive. We visited several flower vendors and purchased as many flowers as we could, sending home the vendors so that they could spend time with their own mothers in the process.

The delight among the senior women was palpable as they received their vibrant bouquets sourced from these local flower vendors. It makes it clear that this exceptional gesture not only uplifts the spirits of those in the retirement center but also fosters economic empowerment and support for our local flower vendors here in Los Angeles.

SHOWERING NEW MOTHERS WITH CARE & COMFORT

LA baby cooperative and STIIIZY

Los Angeles County has one of the highest rates of New Mother’s Living in Low-Income Families in the state of California. With families across the country reeling from the devasting effects of greater national economic inflation, new mothers are especially vulnerable to cost inflation of vital consumer goods needed to keep children happy and healthy chiefly among them diapers.

In order to provide some relief to new mother’s on their special day this year, our Joint Efforts Volunteers organized a competitive diaper drive at our office headquarters and at our production facility, and together we collected hundreds of diapers to donate to the LA Baby Cooperative

In response to stagnant wages and scarce supply of diapers during the COVID-19 pandemic, the LA Baby Cooperative mobilized with an all-volunteer community effort to address the urgent need for diapers and infant supplies. They continue to distribute over 4,000 diapers each Saturday morning in Koreatown and are always looking for new donors to support! To learn more about how to get involved follow this link.

Access to an adequate supply of diapers is vital to our children’s health and wellbeing. Income and wellbeing are intricately linked, and poverty can alter children’s developmental progress in cognitive, socio-emotional, and physical health. It’s very common for new mothers to cut back on other essentials in order to afford diapers for their children, and most babies need 5-10 per day on average.
