STIIIZY and United Playaz have been working closely together this past year for weekly food drives for the senior citizens and homeless communities in Northern California - because as their motto states: “It takes the hood to save the hood.”
STIIIZY has teamed up with the United Playaz organization because it is an organization that has stood out to one of our owners who has been through a similar up-bringing and wanted us to participate in the many events they host; such as the weekly food drives. We have been working with their organization since early 2019 — collaborating with them to help create enough food for 1000-1500 people in the Bay area’s senior, homeless communities.
United Playaz is a violence prevention and youth development organization that has worked in San Francisco for over 25 years. Founded by Rudy Corpuz Jr., it has been a longstanding organization that has served the children and families of the NorCal area since the early 90s.
Corpuz grew up in the same community that he serves today, having joined a gang at age 12 and selling drugs at age 16, he spent nearly a decade in and out of trouble with the law. After running into an old friend, he enrolled in a program at City College of San Francisco and from there changed his life path by becoming a gang prevention counselor that soon led him to create United Playaz with the help of the youth (Pati Navalta Poblete).
