STIIIZY DONATES WATER TO SKID ROW DURING CALIFORNIA HEAT WAVE

On Monday August 24, 2020 the STIIIZY team visited Skid Row — an area with one of the largest and most-known populations of homeless people in the United States — to distribute water to its unhoused community to help combat California’s recent heat wave.

Over the past week, Los Angeles reached high temperatures ranging between 90-100 degrees that brought humidity and heat that SoCal residents are not used to. August 24th was no different: temperatures reaching mid 90s that normal residents are able to combat but for the unhoused community residing in Skid Row, it is a luxury they cannot afford. Many of the people who received water were grateful because a lot of businesses they received free food and water from before have now closed due to COVID.

STIIIZY partnered up with Oxigen Water to distribute over 400 bottles of clean water to this neighboring community. An additional 384 bottles were donated to The Midnight Mission Homeless Shelter: located in DTLA.

With a rise in temperature comes a rise in health issues such as dehydration, heatstroke and other heat-related issues. These issues are especially problematic for those who are elderly or have pre-existing health conditions.

STIIIZY providing water to the Skid Row community is only a temporary solution to a long-standing, systemic problem that many metropolitan areas experience. Until we can achieve change in our communities, STIIIZY will continually host a variety of donations and volunteer work to help our community rise above.
